A Farmer's Daughter Fibers Collection: Wool and Wander

Our Wool & Wander Collection is finally here and it’s everything we dreamed up and more! Inspired by the magic of adventure; scouting the wild, cozy campfires, and the spirit of exploring the open lands. This collection brings together cozy knit, layered texture, and sense of belonging.

Shot on location in the Backbone of the World, each piece in the collection was designed to capture the essence of togetherness, personal style, and that wild-hearted FDF energy. From the earthy tones to the handmade details, Wool & Wander is a celebration of craft, friendship, and finding joy wherever you roam.

This collection idea came to me back in February, with the goal of releasing it for Flock in August, so we had to hit the ground running. Once the vision started to take shape, we put out a designer call and were blown away by the number of submissions (74 total!), and we landed on the perfect mix of designs for this collection. After that we spent hours curating the right color palettes for each piece, then moved into dyeing, putting the perfect kits together, test knitting, sample knitting, and finally, seeing the finished projects come together was incredible. This collection was a labor of love from start to finish on all parts, and every piece came together just the way it was meant to.

Our designers beautifully embodied the spirit I envisioned for this collection, each design feels like a love letter to the outdoors, filled with intention, texture, and a deep connection to the wild!

Let the adventure begin!

The Garments

Wanderer by Max The Knitter

Max has always loved sketching trees and mountains, so when he saw the Wool & Wander mood board, full of nature, texture, and discovery, he was curious to see what it might inspire, this time through his knitting. What came to mind was something deeply structural, echoing the layered formations found in the earth.

Recollect has long been one of Max’s favorite bases to work with. After using it for his Hide and Peak sweater, he’d been waiting for the right moment to return to it, and this design call was just the spark he needed. Max designed the yoke to let makers create a custom gradient using solid shades, making each version feel personal and one-of-a-kind. It’s a perfect canvas for experimenting with combinations that reflect your own sense of style and mood. Max included a stranded colorwork motif that’s both easy to knit and easy to memorize, ideal for adventurous beginners ready to give colorwork a try. The result is a sweater that feels grounded in nature, full of thoughtful detail, and approachable to knitters at all levels.

This top down pullover features a circular yoke construction with colorwork that uniquely blends 4 colors together, easy to remember chart and no need to catch your floats. This pattern is written for a unisex fit with short rows at the back neck.

Our blue sample was knit in a size 2 with a cropped Body Length. The MC is Love me Like You Used To in Reminisce.  The Den in Recollect, Ranch Romance in Recollect and Sapphire Empress in Recollect for the CC gradient.

Our pink sample was knit in a size 3 with a 13.5 inch body.  The MC is The Den in Recollect.  Clay Dreaming in reminisce, Clay Dreaming in Recollect and Dumplin in reminisce for the CC gradient.

Trailhead Tee by Lindsey Fowler

Lindsey has long dreamed of designing a tee inspired by the ringer tees and raglans of the 1970s, something that felt nostalgic but still true to her aesthetic. Wool & Wander offered the perfect opportunity to bring that vision to life for her. Drawing inspiration from vintage photos of summer camping gear from the '70s and '80s, she pulled together details and textures that eventually became the Trailhead Tee. As someone who lives on the border of a national park and comes from a family of hikers, Lindsey is no stranger to the trail. Designing a tee that could actually be worn on a warm-weather hike felt like a natural challenge for her. She imagined the Trailhead Tee on a backpacker with a cooler of fancy cheeses and a boombox in tow, someone out for a good time, not necessarily a long time.

From the very beginning, Lindsey knew she wanted to use Confluence Cotton. She’d seen it in person at a retreat, and the color palette stuck with her! Lindsey included a lot for knitters to love in this pattern. The Trailhead Tee offers a lot to customize, from length options (cropped or full) to the customizable sleeves. A stripe detail along the arms features a faux seam that adds the look of appliqué. Lindsey designed this so clever color choices can completely transform the piece depending on the contrast and combinations as well as including a  henley collar for a great opportunity to get creative with buttons.  The tee was designed for an inclusive range of sizes, including options for kids.

This henley style tee is knit from the top down. Featuring raglan increases, this top starts out knit back and forth to add on the button band and collar later and then joined seamlessly in the round for the sleeves and body. The sleeves feature stripes with a raised welt on each side of the welt, reminiscent of the patches worn on park rangers sleeves!

Our grey sample was knit in a size 6 with a 15 inch body length.  Winter Wolf is the MC and for the CC we used Turtle Time and Shortnin Bread.

Our brown sample was knit in a size 7 with a 15 inch body length. We used Shortnin Bread as the MC with Love Me Like You Use To and Hey Victor for the CCs.

The Prairie Rose Cardigan by EndaKnits

The Wool & Wander theme played a big role in shaping Enda’s approach to color, Inspired by vintage Western aesthetics, they leaned into a nostalgic feel. The design is rooted in their memories of camping in Northern California, surrounded by golden hills, wildflowers, dense redwood forests, and wide open plains. The final palette beautifully captures that landscape, warm, earthy tones punctuated by bright floral pops. Enda had already sketched out a rough version of this cardigan before the design call was announced. Once they saw the theme, everything clicked, it felt like the perfect collaboration to them to bring the design to life.

They chose Pishkun for its unique combination of structure and softness, squishy, fluffy, and surprisingly lightweight for its density; it was the ideal match for both colorwork and steeking. And this cardigan is nothing if not fun to knit. Enda highlights how steeks can be used creatively, not just for traditional front openings, but to add colorwork panels wherever a little extra flair is needed. It’s a fresh take on customization.

This cardigan is knit from the top down. It features colorwork at the shoulders and side seams as well as lace details on the front panels and a double faced button band. This pattern is great for the adventurous knitter as it includes flat colorwork, steeking, and basic lace!

Our yellow-brown sample was knit in a size 3.  We used Why Johnny Ringo as the MC with Ranch Romance and The Den as CCs.

The light pink was knit in a size 4.  We used Scouts Honor as the MC with The Den and Why Johnny Ringo as the CCs.

Woodland Echo by Esti Juango

For Esti, lace is more than just a design element, it forms winding paths that capture the spirit of Wool and Wander. The journey begins the moment you cast on, unfolding row by row, and reaching its peak as the final stitches fall into place. Beyond the theme itself, Esti finds endless inspiration in her weekend strolls through the foothills of Mount Montejurra in Estella, Spain. It's a process of trial and error, always guided by a deep understanding of how lace interacts with the texture of reverse stockinette stitch.

As you knit this piece, Esti invites you to take notice of how the lace, cables, and bobbles come together, intertwining like the natural elements of a rugged landscape to create a textured design.

This pullover features a center cable highlighted by a simple lace pattern on the body and sleeves, this raglan pullover is a stunner in our Bear Paw DK, the stitch definition highlights each cable, bobble, and yarnover. Knit from the top down, this pattern offers both charted and written instructions to let you choose your knitting journey.

Our grey sample was knit in a size 2 in Crosscurrent.

Our pink sample was knit in a size 3 in Sunstone.

Topo Shawl by Ambah O'Brien

The topographical map imagery in the Wool & Wander moodboard sparked immediate inspiration for Ambah. She dove into a deep archive of vintage maps, drawn to their lines, layered contours, and earthy-yet-unexpected color palettes. As a child, Ambah loved orienteering, navigating terrain with nothing but a compass and a map. That connection to the land stayed with her, and she was excited to explore topography through the medium of knitting. With Topo, she transforms map lines into texture and color, inviting knitters to do the same. There are endless possibilities for customization, much like the varied hues found in old map legends and elevation charts.

For the yarn, Ambah chose Pishkun, a non-superwash wool with just the right amount of "stickiness," making it perfect to work with for intarsia. What Ambah hopes knitters will love most is the opportunity to make this design their own. She’s included a template so you can play with color before casting on, whether you’re inspired by your local landscape or the dream of one far away.

This intarsia shawl is the perfect canvas for color exploration. Intarsia is a knitting technique that creates bold blocks of color by using separate yarns for each section, no floats across the back like in stranded colorwork. Worked from tip to tip, the design lets vibrant shades shine, reminiscent of vintage topographical maps. Knit in Pishkun, the fabric is soft yet structured, giving the topo-inspired motif beautiful definition.

Our shawl was knit up using Clay Dreaming (C1), Dumplin (C2), Mars of Us (C3) and Horse Belly (C3).

The Accessories

Quartz Lake Bandana by Mikah Rae

For Mikah, designing a piece that could fit in against the breathtaking backdrop of Glacier National Park was an inspiring challenge. She wanted to showcase the incredible textures of Tunisian crochet in a way that would highlight the yarn, and let the yarn elevate the texture. The result is a design she’s truly proud of. Her inspiration came from the bandanas worn by scouts in Moonrise Kingdom, which sparked images of rope strung between trees, tents pitched beneath dramatic peaks, and being immersed in the wild. The braid stitch felt like a perfect nod to choosing different paths to wander down.

To bring the design to life, Mikah chose Bear Paw DK, a dreamy blend of buttery soft superwash merino, yak, and silk. For her, every color in the palette is a winner for this bandana. There’s a lot to love about this pattern. The braid stitch, a texture Mikah created herself, gives the piece a unique, signature look, you’ll also work in the satisfying Tunisian simple stitch, and the edge detailing, where the increases happen, is a beautiful feature in its own right. Mikah designed a perfect blend of interesting textures and techniques, but still approachable. If you’re comfortable with the basics of Tunisian crochet, this is an ideal next-step project that promises both ease and excitement.

This bandana-style cowl is worked flat in Tunisian crochet using just two skeins of our Bear Paw DK. Tunisian crochet blends elements of both knitting and crochet: you pick up stitches across the row with a hook then work them off onto a cable in a return pass. The result is a beautifully textured fabric. This design features both the Tunisian Simple Stitch and the Braid Stitch, adding extra depth and detail to the piece.

Our red sample was crocheted in Mars Of Us.

Our grey sample was crocheted in The Den.

Our pink sample was crocheted in Clay Dreaming.

Toast Hat by Tin Can Knits

The gals from Tin Can Knits has always loved camping and being surrounded by nature, they says it’s the perfect environment for knitting. There's something about fresh air, quiet moments, and wool in hand that just makes sense. The Wool & Wander mood board instantly transported them to Jasper in the Canadian Rockies, still smelling the pine trees, feeling the cool mountain breeze, a memory that helped shape the design.

Choosing Recollect for this hat was an easy decision for them. They note it’s one of their favorite yarns, soft, bouncy, and still woolly. The natural texture of the yarn brings out every detail of the design.  They hope knitters will take joy in the intricate texture created with just knits and purls, a reminder that even the simplest stitches can create something special.

This simple hat is knit from the bottom up, it’s a perfect project for beginners or anyone craving a relaxing, meditative knit. You can further customize your have by choosing between a classic single brim or a cozy turned brim for a bit of extra warmth and style.

Chevron and Fluff Cowl Set by Clare Lipinski

The Wool & Wander theme got Clare thinking about outdoor fashion, garments made to be worn under open skies, beautiful enough for the wild, but cozy and layerable for changing weather. Her design is a nod to the art of dressing for the Great Outdoors, with a touch of softness, structure, and subtle shine. Clare is inspired by water, its movement, its light, and the birds floating across its surface. She chose colors and textures that echo the ripples, wakes, and bubbles that trail behind them.

The idea of layering lace over something soft and fuzzy had been brewing for Clare for a while, and Oh Dang! felt like the perfect base, magnificently fluffy. But Clare knew she wanted a bit more structure in the soft layer, so she decided to strand it with something crisp and defined. That’s where Spinster's Daughter came in, recommended to Clare by Candice, it was exactly what the design needed. One of Clare’s favorite things about this design is how much color play you can enjoy without having to work traditional colorwork. Clare knit hers with the way light reflects off moving water in mind, but she wanted it to be easy to pull inspiration from butterfly wings, stained glass windows, or light filtering through trees.

The outer cowl is knit with a single strand of our Spinster's Daughter Sport, featuring a light, airy fabric and an easy-to-memorize 4-row lace pattern. The inner cowl adds warmth and softness, knit with one strand each of Oh Dang! Lace and Spinster's Daughter for a dense, cozy layer that's simple and knits up quickly.

The inner cowl of our grey and blue-green sample is knit up with Spinster's Daughter Sport in The Den held with Oh Dang! in The Den. The outer cowl is knit up with Spinster's Daughter Sport in Ranch Romance.

The inner cowl of our pink sample is knit up with Spinster's Daughter in Obsidian Oak held with Oh Dang! Bear Gulch.  The outer cowl is knit up with Spinster's Daughter Sport in Willow Creek.

Field Day Socks by Ashley Adams

For Ashley, the Wool & Wander theme instantly brought to mind summer camp adventures, hikes through the woods, and long days spent exploring the outdoors. That spirit inspired her to design a pair of socks that could keep up with any activity, whether tucked into hiking boots, slipped into clogs, or worn with slides on a sunny day. Some of her favorite memories, picking blueberries, setting up camp by the river, and hiking to a quiet fishing lake, shaped the vision behind the Field Day Socks. She wanted a design that was sporty and functional, yet still stylish and streamlined. The result is a clean, wearable sock with understated stripes and crisp lines that pair with any summer fit.

To bring it all together, Ashley chose Bear Paw Sock. With the durability of nylon and the softness of yak, it’s a perfect match for a design meant to be both practical and special. While the Field Day Socks may seem simple at first glance, Ashley has packed them with thoughtful details. A half-stripe at the toe adds a subtle visual twist, complete with a video tutorial to guide knitters through the technique. One of her favorite features is the clean transition of ribbing into the heel. She uses a Fleegle heel, where carefully placed decreases create a mirrored, triangular shape that flows seamlessly up the leg. It's moments of detail that make the knitting experience so rewarding, and Ashley hopes makers will find the process as engaging as the finished socks are wearable.

These socks are knit from the toe up, this pattern great for trying on as you work to ensure you're getting the perfect fit. 2x2 ribbing begins at the ankle and works all the way into the cuff keeping the snug around your ankle but with room to breath!

Our grey sample's MC is Crosscurrent and the CC is Ranch Romance

Our pink sample was knit in a size two with an 8.5 inch long foot.  The MC is Clay Dreaming and the CC is Dumplin.

Trekking Cap by Lindsey Fowler

Lindsey set out to design a timeless hat, something fun to knit, easy to wear, and full of opportunities for color play and personalization. She wanted makers to feel like they could create something truly unique, a piece that reflects their individual style and spirit. While gathering inspiration, she found herself drawn to vintage photos of hikers and mountaineers. One image in particular, a man on a rugged trail, stood out and helped anchor her vision within the world of Wool and Wander. The design that followed evokes serious explorers and seasoned mariners, with a motif that nods to a vintage birdseye pattern climbing up the rise of the cap. It’s easy to imagine this hat worn high in the snowy mountains or out braving the wind on a stormy sea. It's versatile, practical, and rich with character.

To bring her vision to life, Lindsey chose Reminisce, perfect for showcasing the intricate motif, the smaller gauge adds warmth and clarity, letting the pattern shine. The final design is approachable, giftable, and wearable. Lindsey hopes makers can appreciate six sizes to choose from and a wide ribbed, fold-over brim, the cap offers a snug, flexible fit for all kinds of heads.

Starting with a long folded brim, this hat has a simple repeating colorwork motif though the body. We love this pattern for the colorwork curious as the simple motif has very short floats which would make this pattern suitable to be a knitters first colorwork project!

Our blue sample is knit in a size 4, with Sapphire Empress in Recollect as the MC and Ranch Romance in Recollect as the CC.

Our green sample is knit in a size 4, with Why Johnny Ringo in Reminisce as the MC and Old Man Coyote in Recollect as the CC.

  • Hi, I’m considering joining the make-along with the chevron and fluff cowl, but there is one color of Spinster’s Daughter I have my eye on that is a Spincycle exclusive. Would an FO made with some Farmer’s Daughter yarn not purchased at your shop still be eligible?

  • I was so surprised to see one of your young models in the stunning photos for the collection, Candice. She is fantastic! That beauty is definitely got the best of her Mom and her Dad’s genes ❤️
