FDF Book Club Presents: Women of Mythology Series
by Candice English
Told through women’s perspectives, these books reclaim ancient myths and uncover the emotional and political truths buried beneath them. Centering figures so often sidelined, simplified, or spoken over, each selection revisits a familiar myth and asks what changes when the story belongs to the woman who lived it. By exploring Greek mythology and early Roman foundations, the series examines the grit, complexity, and resilience of women’s lives; stories of survival, power, and resistance that still resonate today. Each book is paired with a custom colorway, a set of mini skeins, and a knit we love designed to reflect the themes, mood, and emotional landscape of the story.

The Books
Stone Blind by Natalie Haynes

The Witch of Colchis by Rosie Hewlett

Clytemnestra by Costanza Casati

The Silence of the Girls by Pat Barker

These novels reimagine myths and ancient histories and contain depictions of violence, war, sexual assault and sexual violence, abuse, misogyny, enslavement, and trauma. Readers may also encounter themes of bodily harm, death, loss, and emotional and psychological distress. The narratives often engage with power imbalances and the systemic brutality faced by women in myth.
The Yarn
The Book Club yarns were dyed on Bear Paw DK, chosen for its softness, shine, and how it holds layered color. Each skein reflects the tone and substance of its paired book, capturing the atmosphere and feelings the stories invoke rather than plot.

Stone Blind
Cool stone grays, pale mineral tones, and shadows are shown through this colorway. The variegated palette echos the silence imposed on Medusa’s story, with darker flecks hinting at a little tension beneath the surface.
The Witch of Colchis
Deep jewel tones move through this skein with a sense of unpredictability. Saturated with intense color, the variegated palette reflects passion and power.
Clytemnestra
Dark reds and purples are grounded by some neutrals, creating a palette that feels intentional. This colorway speaks to inheritance, grief, and authority taken through force of will rather than permission.
The Silence of the Girls
Soft, weathered neutrals form in the foundations of this colorway, with gradual tonal shifts that emerge. The palette mirrors lives shaped by restraint, where endurance and resistance carry the story forward.
Mini Skeins
For those drawn to some contrast or for those who can't decide, the pack includes two mini skeins of each Book Club colorway. These smaller skeins are ideal for stripes, accents, or patterns that shift in color.
The Everglow Shawl
Cheryl Fausts' newest design the Everglow Shawl was such an easy choice to knit up with the Book Club yarns. Its texture allows variegated colors to create beautiful depth without overwhelming the fabric.
We knit up mini shawl swatches to see each colorway in the pattern, highlighting how stitch definition and color pairings work together to make such a great shawl. Each pairing brings out something different in the yarn!
