On the Road with FDF: Fiber Festivals We're Headed to This Year!

One thing we really love at FDF is hitting the road for fiber festivals. It’s the perfect chance to escape the shop (and Montana), hang with our FDF crew somewhere new, yarn it up, and pretend it’s totally normal to pack an entire suitcase just for wool.

We’ll be updating this blog as each show gets closer, giving you a first look at what we’re packing and the collabs we’re cooking up!

Flock Fiber Festival :: Seattle, WA

This will be our second year at Flock and we couldn't be more excited! This year we will be bringing our new collection: Wool and Wander.  There are so many good patterns and color combos we have specially curated for this collection we cant wait to share with everyone.  On top of this we will be bringing 6+ bases of our hand dyed yarn, some of our favorite Re: Design bags, knitting accoutrements like cocokints and custom FDF Flair, fun apparel and more!

Flock takes place in downtown Seattle, there’s vintage shopping, craft coffee, and great food at every turn. The new convention center is the perfect setting: tons of natural light and big windows.

With a packed lineup of vendors (seriously, so many), there’s something for everyone, whether you're on the hunt for the perfect skein or just there for the vibes. And when your tote bag is full and your heart’s content, there's still a lot to do. Think: spontaneous vintage finds, laid-back park strolls, ferry rides with a salty breeze, and enough incredible food to justify a dedicated snack strategy.  It’s the perfect mix of city life and PNW calm. There’s so much to love about Seattle, but like every show stop, I’ve got my tried-and-true favorites, and I'll share them with you.

My Recs

Eat: Din Tai Fung

Everything on the menu is delicious, but I’m especially hooked on the Wood Ear Mushrooms and the Steamed Soup with Bone In Chicken.

Shop: Any of the many vintage shops

There are TONS of cool vintage shops filled with gems.

Adventure: Ferry To Bainbridge Island

I love to ride the ferry over to Bainbridge Island, its the perfect opportunity to relax before exploring!

A Woolen Affair :: Kingston, NY

We’ve done a lot of events with Catherine Clark of Brooklyn General Store over the years, and she always knows how to throw a proper wool party, bringing the energy, the community, and the creativity every time. We’re especially excited to be back at Hutton Brickyards in the heart of Kingston. It’s an immaculate vibe, a cool venue no matter the weather, and the natural beauty of the Hudson River just adds to the magic. This year’s theme, Down by the Riverside, is all about the merging of streams, a thoughtful nod to connection, flow, and the Indigenous land we’re gathering on. We’re always honored to be part of an event that pays tribute to that history and holds space for it with intention.

Of course, we’re bringing all the good stuff, plenty of yarn, Sisters United merch, knitting accoutrements, and more. This year, we’re especially excited about a fun collab with Caitlin Hunter of Boyland Knitworks and the Spincycle gals.

Kingston is a great place to keep the good vibes going after Woolen Affair, the town has just the right mix of historic charm and creative energy. Think: cobblestone streets, quirky little shops, and cute coffee houses. Though Kingston is great I love to take a short drive north to Woodstock, NY.

My Recs (for Woodstock, NY)

Eat: Nirvana

Nirvana seriously has the best Indian food, I was tempted to gatekeep this one, but it’s way too good not to share.

Shop: Zephyr

I’ve picked up pieces here that I’ve had for ages and still wear all the time, and they have a wide price range.

Thing To Do: Tinker Street

There are tons of shops and great places to eat on the main road, it's just fun to explore.

If you're staying around Rhinebeck, the NYS Sheep and Wool Festival is the next two days.

Local Yarn Shops:

Yarn Farm Kingston (and wine bar!)

Brooklyn General Store (if you're heading south into the city)

Sacred Sheep :: Portland, OR

There’s something about Sacred Sheep that just hits right. This show is smaller but it packs a serious punch. It’s one of our favorite fiber fests of the year. Rachel and the Ritual Dyes crew pour their hearts into this show. They’re behind the scenes planning all year, and it shows. Every detail feels intentional, every vendor thoughtfully chosen. And it’s not just yarn, you’ll find herbal goods, ceramics, jewelry, apparel,  a full-on fiber lifestyle moment.

We always bring a slightly funkier side of FDF to Portland. This year’s mood? Full-on cozy. We’re talking hibernation-core: all the squishy bases, layers, and cozy collabs that WILL beg you to cast on. The show itself is intimate but it’s full of good energy and laughs, but especially all the “OMG HI!” reunions we look forward to all year.

If you’re planning a pre-holiday girls’ trip, Sacred Sheep is perfect. The show is fun but there's also amazing food, park walks, vintage treasures, and just enough weird Portland vibes to keep things interesting. FDF always go for the wool, and stays for the fun.

My Recs

I could eat oysters with friends pretty much every night, and these two spots are hands-down my top picks for the freshest.

Shop: Frances May

I’m love this shop, they always have the cutest stuff. Trendy, but still feels super unique.

Thing To Do: Columbia River Gorge

Beyond oysters and cocktails, the Columbia River Gorge is a fun day trip.

And a stay at the Society Hotel is so worth it.

Local Yarn Shops:

Ritual Dyes

Starlight Knitting Society

We can't wait to see you at the shows!
