Yarn For All Signs

If you’ve been following FDF, you know we’re big on zodiac signs and trusting the energy they bring to us. We’ve always believed that yarn carries a feeling just as much as it carries color and texture. Our bases are no different, each one has its own distinct vibe, personality, and way of showing up in a project. Some feel bold and grounding, others soft and intuitive, and some are made to shine in their own. So naturally, we couldn’t resist pairing each base with its own zodiac sign, letting that energy guide how it wants to be knit, worn, and loved.

Bear Paw Sock

Represented by a mythological sea goat, Capricorn’s know all it takes to scale a mountain is patience and perseverance. Knitting with sock weight can sometimes feel like a mountain to overcome; the small needles can make it feel like progress takes twice as long. But anyone who has used Bear Paw Sock knows that even though the thin yarn can take a while to knit the squishy texture and beautiful finished project make it all worth it at the end.

Mighty Mo

Light and ethereal, Mighty Mo feels right at home with an air sign. Aquarius energy is all about originality and flow, and this base captures that with ease. Represented by the water bearer, every Aquarius needs a touch of Juniper in their lineup.

Dyed in the Wool

Represented by two fish swimming in opposite directions and representing the division between attention on fantasy vs reality , Pisces are the most intuitive signs. In the knitting world, they should be represented by Dyed in the Wool, dyed in the roving and the colors are often going the opposite direction creating a fractal spun style.

Foxy Lady

Bright, bold, and ambitious, Aries is perfectly matched with Foxy Lady. This base has a beautiful sheen and a smooth, silky feel that stands out without trying too hard. The way the silk catches the light makes it a natural fit for this fearless fire sign.

Bear Paw DK

Soft and serene, as an earth sign the Taurus loves peaceful earthly things. Valuing clear communication, those with a Taurus celestial sign will love how our Bear Paw DK has a high amount of stitch definition showing off every stitch of its hard work.

Spinsters Daughter Sport

Gemini’s are the air sign that has so many pursuits they have to double themselves to do them all. As a collaboration, this Spinsters Daughter represents the minds of celestial twins, Farmers Daughter and Spincycle, coming together to create something unique and beautiful.

 Oh Dang!

Symbolized by the Crab, the Cancer lives on the beach pulled between the material realm and the sea. Mighty Mo can be used on its own to create light and ethereal pieces but also can be grounded when used alongside other yarn - truly a yarn that can exist in two worlds seamlessly.

Juicy DK

The spirited Leo lion is the king of the celestial jungle. One of our oldest and most tried and true bases, Juicy DK is FDF royalty. Leo’s are known for their fiery and theatrical presence and Juicy DK steps up to the challenge. The base takes dye so well it allows us to create some of our most vivid and bold colors.

Confluence Cotton

Historically Virgos are represented by the goddess of wheat and agriculture, meaning they have a connection to the earthly world. Confluence cotton is a blend of wool and cotton, a practical blend of the many fibers nature has given us. Dye is attracted to the wool first and does not set into the cotton creating an earthy tweedy texture.

Pishkun

Any spinner knows, when creating a two ply yarn the structure of the yarn relies entirely on balance. Over twist and the plies will twist back on themselves, but the yarn won’t be strong if it doesn’t have enough twist. When plied back on each other, the twist of each ply balances each other out - creating the equilibrium that every Libra is striving to create in themselves.

Reminisce & Recollect

Because of their passion and power, Scorpios can be mistaken for a fire sign but they are actually a water sign; often in touch with their emotions and are very intuitive. That’s why Scorpio feels like the right match for Reminisce and Recollect. These bases are easy to confuse at first glance, but they’re not the same. Reminisce is a white base, while Recollect is grey. It’s a quiet distinction, but an important one, and very much in line with Scorpio energy.

Squish Bulky

Represented by the archer, Sagittarians are always on the search for knowledge. For Farmer’s Daughter, nothing represents this better than or Squish Bulky which we have used for teaching for years. The thick gauge allows for quick knitting, allowing you to constantly try new projects and move on to learning new things all the time!
