Brusca is made from native Portuguese breeds; the Saloia and Merino Branco and Preto. The Saloia is endangered and the numbers have collapsed from over 10,000 to fewer than 2,400, mostly because construction has eaten into it’s grazing land. Rosa Pomar buys the whole clip from the shepherds and works directly with breeders and small mills to keep these sheep part of everyday knitting. Grown, scoured, milled, and dyed in Portugal. Traceable from sheep to skein.

We believe a strong wool world isn’t just an American thing, it’s a global thing. When shepherds anywhere can keep their flocks, all of us who love this craft win.

Heads up, you might spot some vegetable matter in this skein. Don't worry, that's expected. Sheep are living animals out living their sheep lives, and while the mills do their best, a bit of earth occasionally makes it through. It's easy to pick out, and it's a small, honest reminder that this came from a real flock. 🐑
