The Rising Sun bag is special because of its texture, but also because it has the same personality as finishing hard day's work, grabbing your purse and taking a drive to town. The body and strap are worked in single crochet, while the flap is formed from two motifs, and of course the dramatic fringe sets the whole thing off!

FDF made their versions out of Recollect sport in Ranch Romance and Sinopah. Any Sport or DK weight yarn would work great! Confluence Cotton would be a great option for a more summer version, or Juicy DK for a washable option.

Tips and Tricks:

The body of the bag is worked in single crochet. Motifs are worked separately and sewn together to create the front flap, which is then sewn to the body of the bag. Finally a s trap is worked in single crochet and a fringe is added to the front flap.

To reduce pattern length, when a number of single sts are worked one after another (i.e. without increasing), this is given in the style Xsc. For example "10sc= work 1 sc in each of the next 10 stitches. US crochet terminology is used throughout.
