Morning Star was originally designed for our 2021 Celestial Countdown. A combo of an odd number of mini skeins and 1 full size skein. The story of Iipissoōwa”tsis and Morning Star is one of my favorite Blackfeet creation stories. You can find a version of the story here.
We have 5 different versions of the kits, in two different weights (DK and Fingering). All kits include 1 full size skein, 9 to 11 mini skeins (depending on the kit), hard copy of the pattern (with Ravelry download), and 4 stickers that correlate with the Morning Star story.
OG Morning Star Kit : This kit is what we originally created for the Celestial Countdown. The main color for this kit is Horse Belly and it comes with 11 mini skeins
Desert Tarot Kit : This kit is inspired by a tarot card deck I found in Santa Fe last summer. The Desert Illuminations Deck by Lindsay D. Williams is one of the stunning decks I have ever come across. It speaks to me in so many ways! The kit includes 11 mini skeins. The main color for this kit is an undyed, natural.
Candi's Choice : Greens and pinks, is there any other choice Candi would make?!? This version of the cowl was knit up in Fingering weight, and because I didn't want it quite so long I made it out of 9 skeins vs. 11. The main color of this kit is Napi.
When the Sun Goes Down on My Side of Town: Bright Neons! We don't do too many bright colors here at FDF, but sometimes we just can't resist! This kit has 10 mini skeins, and the MC is Legend to make those neons pop!
Rose City: We have just a few leftovers of the exclusive kit we dyed for the Rose City Yarn Crawl! This kit is inspired by Portland. It includes 9 minis, and the MC is our newest colorway, Many Moons!
DK Weight Version : Pintler DK is 75% Merino and 25% Nylon
Fingering Weight Version : Squish Fingering is 100% Merino
- MC can not be swapped out for other colors. Mini's will make at least 2 cowls.
- As of now we don't have the Desert Illuminations Deck sold for separate purchase but we will in the future.
- Thank you to Robert Hall for the Blackfeet language and Jesslyn Starnes for the pattern layout and illustrations.
